The conference dinner will take place at the Vienna City Hall by invitation of the Mayor of Vienna. The City Hall is one of the most splendid amongst the numerous monumental buildings in Vienna. Enjoy a pleasant evening with dinner and musical entertainment. Tickets can be purchased online via the registration process. As the number of participants is limited, we recommend to register early.

Booking and cancellation conditions:
Cancellations received by June 30, 2006 will be free of charge. For cancellations received after June 30, 2006, no refunds can be made. Only written cancellations may be accepted. All refunds will be made after the congress.
EXCURSIONS:
Sightseeing-tours in Vienna and it’s surrounding will be organized for the delegates of the IPCS28 conference. Every registered participant and accompanying person can register free of charge for ONE of the following tours on Thursday afternoon (Tour 1 – Tour 4). If somebody, who has NOT registered for the congress, wants to join one of the tours, the rate as stated below has to be paid. Please register early as the number of participants per tour is limited.
In addition, we offer optional tours during the week to famous sightseeing spots outside of Vienna (Tours 5-7). For rates and details please see below. |

At the beginning of our tour we pass the Ringstrasse, with its magnificent buildings like the State Opera House, the Museum of Fine Arts and Natural History, Parliament, City Hall, Burgtheater, University, Votiv Church and Hofburg. The highlight of this tour is the visit of Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburg (interior visit). In the year 1696 J.B. Fischer von Erlach started work on the castle as it stands at present. The work was largely finished by the year 1713. Schönbrunn Castle served mainly as a summer residence of the Habsburgs. On the way back to the opera we pass by the Belvedere Palace, the former summer residence of Prince Eugen, which houses the largest and the most precious Gustav Klimt collection in the world.

First of all we will see the “Stadtbahnstationen” (stations of tram and underground) of Otto Wagner and the “Secession” (building by Koloman Moser, one of the most universal artists of that period). As a founder member of both the “Secession” and the “Wiener Werkstätte” (he was primarily responsible for the transition from the floral curves of the Art Nouveau to the geometric ornaments). We continue our visit with the renovated Beethovenfries, one of the masterpieces of Gustav Klimt. Other work pieces are exhibited in the Austrian Gallery in the “Oberen Belvedere”, which is our next stop. Here we will see the world famous picture “Der Kuss” (The Kiss). From the 3rd district we drive to the “Postsparkasse” (post office saving bank) of Otto Wagner. Last but not least we will have a look at the Naschmarkt (popular name for Vienna’s biggest open air market for fruits and vegetables), where our tour ends.

In this half-day excursion you will see the most beautiful sights of the southern part of the Vienna Woods. Our first stop is in the Roman City of Baden, which is very famous for its operetta performances and its thermal springs. After a short guided tour through the city you will be taken to the former Mayerling hunting lodge, today a commemorative chapel, where Crown Prince Rudolph died tragically in 1889. In the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz – founded in 1133 - you visit the medieval cloister, where the last Babenbergs are buried.

At the beginning of our tour we will pass the impressive UNO-City and the Prater, the Viennese amusement park with its Giant Ferris Wheel. This extensive tract of meadowland between the arms of the Danube is Vienna’s most prized recreation area. The “Wurstelprater” is a collection of booths, amusements, and restaurants. The “Riesenrad”, the Giant Ferris Wheel, was constructed in 1897 and soon became a landmark of this city. Along the Danube river you will be taken to the Augustinian Monastery of Klosterneuburg, where you visit the Altar of Verdun and the Sala Terrena, which was not open for public until May 2006. After the guided tour you can taste a glass of wine at the winery of the monastery. On our way back to Vienna – passing the romantic and well-known wine-growing villages – we will stop at the Kahlenberg, where you have a panoramic view of the city of Vienna.

This tour will show you some highlights of the Burgenland, a province of Austria on the border to Hungary. Our first stop will be in Eisenstadt, the provincial capital, which was once the residence of the Hungarian Princes and many years the home of the composer Joseph Haydn. There we will visit Castle Esterhazy, the most important cultural monument in Burgenland. After the tour through the castle we will continue to the pretty town of Rust on the shores of Lake Neusiedl, famous for its storks, which nest on the house roofs year for year. After lunch you will board a boat for a ride across Lake Neusiedl, the largest steppe lake in Europe and a unique paradise for birds.

At the beginning of our tour we will visit the Abbey of Göttweig. In a spectacular hillside location, easy to spot from a distance at the gateway to the Wachau Valley, Göttweig Abbey seems like a magnificent palace from afar. The monastery – also called the “Austrian Montecassino“ – was founded by Bishop Altmann of Passau in 1083. The show-rooms in the museum and the monumental emperor stairs crowned by the impressive ceiling fresco created by Paul Troeger are worth visiting. After a guided tour through the Abbey the bus will bring you to Krems. The historical centre of Krems is one of the most beautiful in Europe. With its more than 1000-year history, Krems is an age-old witness to Austria`s rich winemaking tradition. On our stroll through Krems, you can encounter a millennium of history at every step - in the streets and squares or in the old monasteries and churches.

This tour will show you the most beautiful parts of the Danube Valley. This region, well-known for its famous wine, is also one of the oldest historical parts of Austria. The highlight of this tour is the visit of the baroque Benedictine Abbey of Melk, founded in 1089 on a steep rock on the bank of the Danube. At Melk you will see the imperial rooms, the marble hall and the famous library with its 80.000 tomes (rich collection of miniature manuscripts from the 12th century onwards) and ceiling frescos by Paul Troger. On the way back to Vienna, we will pass Krems. The historical centre of Krems is one of the most beautiful in Europe. With its more than 1000-year history, Krems is an age-old witness to Austria`s rich winemaking tradition. On our stroll through Krems, you can encounter a millennium of history at every step - in the streets and squares or in the old monasteries and churches.
